Professor Anna Cristina Pertierra is the Associate Dean of Research in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building at University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Anna is an anthropologist with international expertise in consumption and material culture, urban modernities, and media and popular culture. Regionally, her work focuses on Latin America and the Philippines. Anna’s current project is New Consumer Cultures in the Global South, a comparative ethnography of urban consumers in Asia and the Americas.

Prior to joining UTS, Anna held several research leadership positions at Western Sydney University, in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts, and at the Institute for Culture and Society. Anna has authored and edited six books, including Media Anthropology for the Digital Age (Polity 2018); Media Cultures in Latin America (with Juan Francisco Salazar, Routledge 2020); and Locating Television: zones of consumption (with Graeme Turner, Routledge 2013).
