Azzam Mohamed

Azzam Mohamed, also known as Shazam is a Sudanese, Sydney based artist and educator. His dance practice encompasses a range of styles, from street dance styles through to African traditional dance styles.

Azzam was invited with his crew Riddim Nation to develop and perform Two Crews directed by Nick Power, which premiered at Sydney and Adelaide festivals in 2020. Later that year, Azzam developed, and performed his short work "ME MYSELF I" in collaboration with spoken word artist Omar Attia, as part of Intimate Spectacle’s Out of Iso short work series.

Recently, he was crowned winner of the House Dance Style Category of City Sessions dance competition at Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, supported by Arts Centre Melbourne, and Creative Victoria. He recently co-created and premiered his first full choreographic piece The Risk of Hyperbole in December 2021 at Phoenix Gallery in a collaborative project across sound, visual arts and performance directed, composed and co-created by Jack Prest and supported by Create NSW and Ausco. He was also invited to perform as part of Monumental (Working Title) - A durational experimentation performance in April 2022 at The Art Gallery of NSW.
