In 1958, American guitarist Link Wray famously punctured his amplifier speaker cones with a screwdriver to achieve a never before heard rock’n’roll sound on his seminal instrumental “Rumble.” Unknowingly, Wray ushered in a never ending quest for unbridled instrumental distortion and heaviness, transforming amplifiers into totemic instruments in their own right. For NO FALSE IDOLS, artist Kusum Normoyle will undertake a site-specific performance wrestling the human voice with feedbacking guitar amplifiers, disrupting the stereotypical silent atmosphere of the art gallery.

The performance will be prefaced by a discussion on noise and sound between Kusum and artist Peter Blamey, followed by an industrial techno DJ set from Dave Fernandes (House of Mince).
